Some Friday Funnies

My dd just read these to me, and they're hilarious! I especially love the one about Pros and Cons.  Hope you enjoy them, too!

1. Only in America......you can get a pizza to your house faster than an ambulance.

2. Only in America......are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.

3. Only in America......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

4. Only in America......do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a DIET coke.

5. Only in America......do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

7. Only in America......do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.

8.Only in America......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

9. Only in America......do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.

10. Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM's with Braille lettering.

11. Further.........you did not notice that #6 was missing?

EVER WONDER...

Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?

Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?

Why is "abbreviated" such a long word?

Why is it that doctors call what they do "practice"?

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?

Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?

When dog food is new and improved tasting, who tests it?

Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff??

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

In case you needed further proof that the human race is doomed through stupidity, here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods:

On a Sears hairdryer: Do not use while sleeping. ( that's the only time I have to work on my hair).

On a bag of Fritos:! ..You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details inside. (the shoplifter special)?

On a bar of Dial soap: "Directions: Use like regular soap." (and that would be how???....)

On some Swanson frozen dinners: "Serving suggestion: Defrost." (but, it's "just" a suggestion).

On Tesco's Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom): "Do not turn upside down." (well...duh, a bit late, huh)!

On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding: "Product will be hot after heating." (...and you thought????...)

On packaging for a Rowenta iron: "Do not iron clothes on body." (but wouldn't this save me more time?)

On Boot's Children Cough Medicine: "Do not drive a car or operate machinery after taking this medication." (We could do a lot to reduce the rate of construction accidents if we could just get those 5-year-olds with head-colds off those forklifts.)

On Nytol Sleep Aid: "Warning: May cause drowsiness." (and.. .I'm taking this because???....)

On most brands of Christmas lights: "For indoor or outdoor use only." (as opposed to...what?)

On a Japanese food processor: "Not to be used for the other use." (now, somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious.)

On Sunsbury's peanuts: "Warning: contains nuts." (talk about a newsflash)

On Japanese knife: "Keep out of children." (Wow, that never occured to me.)

On an American Airlines packet of nuts: "Instructions: Open packet, eat nuts." (Step 3: maybe, uh...fly Delta?)

On a child's superman costume: "Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly." (I don't blame the company. I blame the parents for this one.)

On a Swedish chainsaw: "Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands." (..was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)

Well, I hope you enjoyed a good chuckle! :-) Happy Friday!

Quick Update!

Happy Friday to you all!! I just wanted to let you know that my arm is doing so much better!! Thank you for the get-well wishes from you special people!

Since my arm is feeling better, I am off to continue my deep cleaning...today I plan to tackle my Craft Closet--YIPES!! (A few prayers for me would help--thanks!)  :-)

My dh is running a Marathon (26.2 miles) tomorrow. We will all be up at 4:30 am to cheer him on (although, I'm not sure how much cheering I'll be doing during the drive there. I'm not really a morning person...lol). I'm sure, tho, that by the the start of the race (7 am) I'll be awake and cheering loudly!

Have a wonderful weekend, and don't forget to check back on Monday for next week's goals!

Thank You Thursday

I just don't know where the time is going!! How is it that life speeds up as we get older...when we're slowing down?? Something's wrong with that, People!

Anyhoo--it's time for Thank You Thursday hosted by Our Imperfect Life.  Be sure to stop by Debra's blog, and join in on the fun!

My post will be short today, since I am battling with tendinitis in...of course!...my right arm. :-( Boo hoo! We finished school yesterday, and I am dying to get to my stamping...oh well. Maybe tomorrow!

Each Thursday, I have trouble deciding just what to say Thank You for...not because I can't think of anything, but because I think of too much! I have so much to be thankful for!

So, here goes...

Thank You to my mom and dad, who agreed to come spend two weeks with us while my dh is out of the country.

Thank You to my dear hs-ing friends that met us at the park. It is so nice to get out with other like-minded people.

Thank You to my friend Deb, who drove us to the park because I couldn't move my arm or turn my head (ouch!).

Thank You to my friend Cindy, who volunteered to help people that she doesn't even know just because they have a need. You are a wonderful example to us all!

Thank You to my wonderful family, who are being (literally!) my Right Arm while I battle through one-handedness. :-)

Thank You to God. I'm a so grateful that I have two healthy hands/arms that I can use 99.9% of the time! I'm so thankful that this a temporary condition!

Well, enough for now. I hope you all have a thankful week--that's always the best kind!

Motivate Me Monday

Wow! Did this week fly!

I can't believe that it is already time for another Motivate Me Monday, can you?

This has been another great week of serving the Lord! I have been so blessed with how the Lord helped me to see and help others. Check out my MMM post update from last week.  I'm sure that I am the one who was the most blessed.

I am continuing with my goal to do one thing each day that helps or encourages someone. Here are some of the specific things I hope to accomplish this coming week:

1. I hope to help out my friend that is in the hospital...either by making her family another meal or going to watch her kids, or both. She gave birth to her son, but since he is six weeks premature he will be in the hospital for a while.

2. I need to make some sets of Thank You cards for gifts: one for a baby gift and one for a wedding gift.

3. I am hoping to get together with some friends this week. It seems like life sometimes takes over, and then our friends (and sometimes our family!) get left behind. I haven't even talked to my BF this past week! Shame on me.

4. I need to do some deep cleaning. And I mean deep.

5. I'm open to whatever else God has for me to do. Sometimes the unplanned RAKs are the biggest blessing, ya' know?

Happy Monday! I hope your week is full of being a blessing!

Cards!

I am finally getting around to posting individually about the cards I showed in my Motivate Me Monday post here.  I'm sorry, but I've so busy lately!

So, here are my cards:

This card is so much prettier IRL! It is a deep purple, but here it looks almost black. The flower is colored in with sparkly ink, and I sprayed the finished card with Champagne Shimmer Mist (SU!). I use that on everything! The paper is from the Basic Gray Wisteria pack, and the sentiment is SU! Kind and Caring Thoughts. I used the slit punch from SU! and the brad is from JoAnn's.

Here I made a set of four for a birthday gift. I used SU! Rose Red dp--four different prints. I embossed each sheet with my Manhattan Rose EF (also SU!) and then lightly sanded the raised image.

I trimmed around the flowers and then glued them to the white cardstock. Then I trimmed the cardstock, leaving a slight edge around the flower. The image is SU! Whimsical Words.

Here is another version of the same card, but I used SU! dp this time. The sentiment is from SU! Chit Chat Rub-ons.

This card was made from a set of unmade window cards sent to me by Susie. I used the Wisteria paper for the background, and then randomly stamped four hearts with Versamark. I embossed them with gold EP. This particular card is for a wedding.

Here are two more versions of the same window card. I used DP and then randomly stamped and embossed images, this time with SU! White EP. The first one is for my Mom for Mother's Day, and the second one is another wedding card.

Sorry I didn't get these posted sooner. I am hoping to get several more cards made and posted this coming week, so stay tuned!

Laughter is Good Medicine

My dd "needed to laugh" tonight, and she shared some of the funny sayings she found. It feels good to laugh, so I thought I'd share them with you. :-D

"Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months." Oscar Wilde

"I poured Spot Remover on my dog. And now he's gone." Steven Wright

"Sometimes I go off into my own little world. But that's okay. They know me there." Anonymous

"Before you get angry at someone walk a mile in their shoes. Then you'll be a mile away and have their shoes." Unknown

"A deaf husband and a blind wife are always a happy couple." John Florio

"A synonym is a word you use if you can't spell the other one." Unknown

"Shin: A device for finding furniture in the dark." Unknown

"Men don't care what's on TV. They only care what else is on TV." Jerry Seinfeld

"A word to the wise ain't necessary. It's the stupid ones that need the advice." Bill Cosby

"Happiness is good health and bad memory." Ingrid Bergman

"I went to the bookstore and asked the saleswoman where the Self-Help section was. She said if she told me it would defeat the purpose." Dennis Miller

Hope you had a chuckle. :-D

I would love it if you would share some funny (and family-friendly) quotes that you know.

After all, laughter is good medicine!

Motivate Me Monday--Updated on Saturday

Good Morning, Lovelies! It is Monday again...and you know what that means....

Yep, and it's going to be a quick one! I have been so busy with my goals for this past week, and I have lots of plans for this coming week so I need to type quickly. :-)

First, an update on this past week. God is so good to me! As I am trying to be more aware of the needs around me I have realized that not everyone is as blessed as I am (duh!). I truly have so much to be thankful for, and that is another good reason to try to do more to impact the lives around me.

I was going to list the ways that I was able to help others this past week, but it sounds so much like bragging, ya' know? Just be sure that I am working hard to impact the lives of those around me, and I have been really busy! :-) But I have also been so blessed.

God is so good to me.

Now for my goals. This week I hope to:
*Send thank you cards to two friends. (Will hopefully finish these today!)

*Make a meal for my friend that is in the hospital (well, actually, the meal is for her family, lol). (Did that yesterday!)

*Keep working on the wedding invitations that I'm making for my friend. (They are taking a long time!) (I finished them on Thursday!! YAY! Now I'm working on the matching Thank Yous...)

*Watch my friend's kids for the day. (Did that yesterday, also.)

*Make a teacher's gift for my dd's piano teacher. (Did that on Monday. I forgot to take pics of it, tho, boo hoo!)

*Help my dd clean her bedroom (believe me, this is a real labor of love, lol!) (Actually, she did it all by herself. Miracles never cease! LOL)

*Whatever else God shows me needs doing! :-) (Today's goal is to minister to my family. I've been so busy helping others that I've neglected a few things around the homefront--laundry, cleaning, etc.! Plus, we need to fit in some shopping. My dd really needs some new shoes...she's growing like a weed!)

It was really amazing to me that yesterday's message in church was about just how much God has blessed us with. We Americans have so much. And yet we are so often a selfish and demanding group of people (just ask a foreigner). I can't change anyone else, but I am praying that God will change me.

We all have to start somewhere.

Until next Monday, happy goal setting...and go be a blessing!

Another "Therapy Session"--For a Friend in Need

I just love therapy, don't you? :-D

I'm continuing my Motivate Me Monday goals today, with a card (and meal) for a friend in need.

This paper is Basic Grey "Wisteria", and I just love it! I got it from Sally in some wonderful candy she sent. The ribbon is from JoAnn's and the brad was from my stash.

I took a pic from this angle, so you can see the shiny part--I used Crystal Effects on the blue flowers to help them stand out better.

I took another pic, trying to get the sentiment to show up...but to no avail! I used the SU! Modern Label punch and a rub-on from SU! Chit Chat rub-ons. It says "Thinking of you, Friend".

It didn't show up as well as I had hoped (the dp was too light), but the husband of my friend was coming to pick up their meal and I didn't have enough time to change it out. You can see if fine IRL. :-)

Thanks for looking!

Thank You Thursday

Time for another Thank You Thursday! It seems like I was just posting for last Thursday...where does the time go??

I have been so challenged lately to use my time more wisely (you all know I'm a procrastinator!), and to be more thankful, and this past week I've been making a concerted effort to be more aware of the needs around me.

But, as I have made this effort to give something (time, material goods, encouragement, etc.) every day I have become overwhelmed with this fact:

You can't out-give God.

Did you really hear that? You can't out-give God. WOW!

So, for my Thank You Thursday post this week, I want to focus on what God has done for me this week.

Thank You, God, for the awesome blog candy that you have allowed me to win recently. I am so excited for all of the fun ways that I am finding to use it for others! (Besides, it's just plain wonderful to get a package in the mail, lol!)

Thank You, God, for the blessing of caring for our friend's baby on Monday night. We were able to use it as a time of learning for my oldest dd, who will be able to start babysitting soon (*gasp* Can she really be that old already??). And we had so much fun!!

Thank You, God, for the special time with my best friend yesterday. We used the time to make cards of encouragement for others, but we were the ones who were the most encouraged. Aah, the blessings of friendship!
(look for individual posts about each of these cards later today or tomorrow)

Thank You, God, for the bea-u-ti-ful weather we're having this week! Oh, the sunshine is so awesome!! Love that special blessing from You!

Thank You, God, for these:

I was busy making a meal for a friend in need, and here come my kiddos with these gorgeous babies from our neighbors. WOW! Thanks for the special reminder that You are the Creator of all things beautiful!

And the week's not even over yet! :-D

I can't wait to see what the rest of the week holds...

Happy "Thank You Thursday" to you all! Until next week...Stay thankful!

Sweet Shot Tuesday

This is my son. You might be wondering just what it is that he's wearing on his head.

It is a Firefighter's helmet. You know, the kind they wear when they're going into a fire.

It used to be a yellow helmet.

The firefighter was wearing this helmet when it turned from yellow to black.

How do I know? This helmet belongs to my big brother, Robert. Yes, I said belongs (not belonged, thank the Lord!), because miraculously, Robert is just fine.

Thanks to this helmet. And to God.

I'm very proud of my big brother, Robert, and of all of the firefighters in my family (six in total). And of firefighters all over the world. They are a brave lot of men and women. I thank God for them.

And I thank God for their helmets.

I'm linking this post with Sweet Shot Tuesday at my3boybarians.

Motivate Me Monday

Confession time...

I didn't do so well with my goals for this past week.

There, I said it.

Yes, I did exercise every day except one! And, yes, I did read with my kiddos! And, yes, I did work on school stuff.

But I didn't do the one thing that probably mattered the most (aside from spending time with my kiddos):

I didn't send one single card of encouragement. Not one. To anyone.

But, I refuse to wallow. I am going to try again. I. will. do. this.

So, here is my goal for this week:

I want to impact the lives of the people I know and love in a way that lifts their spirits, helps them along their journey, brings them closer to God.

Just one thing. Every day.

How can I do that?  Just wait and see...

Here is what I have already done with my today...(hee, hee, I'm living for today, Emily-friend!)

*Offered to babysit for the infant of new parents so that they can have a date night. I'm babysitting tonight! :-)
*Made a list of my craft supplies, so the local Christian School teachers can use my supplies for the crafts that they do with their students. (I'm bringing some paint to the K teacher today! Woo Hoo! This is fun!)
*Talked to a lady from Church about things needed for our Missionary Closet (a supply closet that our Missionaries can take from when they are home on furlough.) Will be working on putting together some things this week. (I plan to bring those things to church Wednesday night.)
*Baked for some local college students (they LOVE home-baked goodies!) DH will deliver the goodies tonight.

There are so many ways that I can impact the lives around me! (God, help me to be more aware.)

So what do you do to impact others? What are some of the ways that you volunteer your time or resources? I would love to hear your ideas! (Then maybe I can do them, too!)

When God gives us something, there is always enough to share.

What do I have that God hasn't given me???

Hello! Nothin'. Natta'. Not. a. single. thing.

Check back next Monday to see what else God allowed me to do for others. He is SOOOO good to me, don't ya' know?

I'm off now to send some cards....really.

Happy goal-setting!

April Winnings

I am finally getting around to posting the two things I won in April...and what a wonderful month! I was so blessed to win this from Nancy:

 and this:

So AWESOME!!!

I also was privileged to win this from Jacki:

This is my FIRST Magnolia stamp, and I have really enjoyed playing with her. Thanks, Jacki!

Card Therapy

I am always telling my kids that "Mom needs to make cards. It's my therapy!" It's meant to be a joke...

sort of.

So, here is a pic of my most recent therapy session:

All paper and punches are Stampin' Up! I used Pearl Stickles for the dots on and behind the butterfly. The bling is something I picked up from JoAnns (I think).

I made this for my niece's birthday.

Hope you're enjoying some great "therapy" sessions of your own!
