Our Thanksgiving Feast

Last Thursday night, we hosted a Thanksgiving Feast. This was a project that my children needed to complete for their school (we homeschool and use Learning Adventures curriculum). We worked for several days planning the meal, the costumes and the games. We made decorations
, made and sent out invitations,  created and printed the programs,

and made the costumes.

 Finally the night arrived!

The table was set.

The guests arrived, all in their costumes!

Notice my two Indians and one Pilgrim:

We had a wonderful meal:

We ate turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls, and vegetables. And, of course, for dessert...

 Pumpkin Pie! Made by:

My oldest dd!

We also ate Pilgrim Hat cookies, which were made by me (Emily-Friend, where were you?? I needed your cute cookies!! Or, at least your help, lol. )

After supper we played traditional Pilgrim games, and took a few more pictures.

Don't you just love this hat?!

We had a very fun night!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. We, like the Pilgrims, have so much to  thank God for!!

Crayon Roll Giveaway

I just LOVE a quiet day, don't you? I mean, they are so infrequent in my house! I enjoy them so much when they do happen.

We are having one of those quiet days today...mainly because it's a holiday.  My house is full of good smells...turkey, mainly, and my hot crab dip (to tide us over until the BIG dinner). I did most of my cooking and baking yesterday so that I could really enjoy our time together today.

One of the things I really enjoy doing on a quiet day is blog surfing. I love to see the wonderful ideas that people have, and I also love to learn about new products and possible gift ideas. You are so creative, People!

While surfing today, I came across a blog called Sweet Treats by Jesseca...who couldn't be drawn to a blog that involves sweet treats?  Well, Jesseca is hosting a giveaway right now (another of my favorite things!) for a handcrafted crayon roll by K&M Handcrafts.

If you had cleaned broken crayon pieces out of your van as many times as I have, you'd know why I want to win this, LOL!

You can head over here to enter. This giveaway ends Nov 26. I'm crossing my fingers! :-)

Hope you're having a quiet day!

Thank You Card

I received some wonderful goodies from Kat, and I wanted to make a thank you to send.

Here is my card:
I didn't like the brown CS (SU! Chocolate Chip) just plain, so I embossed the outside with brown EP.
Here is a closeup of the ribbon (My Mind's Eye "Madison Avenue") and the flower (Mulberry Paper).

Here's a view from the top, so you can see the inside:

I used some of the things that Kimm sent in the candy I won from her (thanks, Kimm!). I just love the "Madison Avenue" line from My Mind's Eye. It's SO pretty!

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
*Stamp Something -- Something with Thanks (ends Dec 2)
*Paper Playtime #26 -- Thank You (ends Nov 28)
*Raise the Bar #45 -- Grateful (ends Dec 4)
*The Sisterhood of Crafters -- Things to be Thankful For (Ends Nov 23)
*Simon Says Stamp -- Sparkle (Ends Nov 23) -- The brown dots are glitter, and there is glitter around the punch with the bird on it. I also spritzed the brown cs with shimmer mist.

I hope you are gearing up for a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am beginning to realize that I am not half as prepared as I thought I was (oops!). Guess I'll be running to the grocery later today...

Have a wonderful day!

Man Card with a Charm

I had some time to "play" this afternoon  (YIPPEE!!), so I decided to enter the Simon Says "Prince Charming" Challenge. Cute name, ha? What it means is to make a man card with a charm on it, hee hee.

What I came up with is VERY different from my usual card...but it is very fitting for the recipient--My Dad. Dad and I enjoy walking in late afternoon or early evening, when it is not quite so hot and the crickets are chirping (am I losing you to Memory Lane yet?...)...so I decided to make this:

All paper is Stampin Up! The only stamped image is the tree (a stamp my friend made), and the sentiment is from SU! Lovely Labels. Everything else is done with scraping and sponging the inks (all SU!). I am no pro, that's for sure! But it is a technique that I would like to try again (hopefully with better results next time, lol.)

Here is a closeup of the tree. I stamped this in black and then heat embossed it in clear embossing powder before I added any of the other colors.

The charm is from my stash, and it is a leaf--fitting, I thought, since both my Dad and I love Fall. Dad and I don't get to walk together very often now, since we live 1,000 miles apart. *sigh*

I appreciate your comments! I must say, I am a little nervous about giving this to my Dad since my Mom is an artist. We'll see what she has to say about it...lol.

I am entering this in the Simon Says Challenge--Prince Charming.

I hope you can make some special memories today!

WOJ Thank You Card

We had such a great time with our family this weekend! It was so nice to see them (Bro & Sis-in-law, 2 nieces), especially since we hadn't seen them since last December. The only problem is, the visit was TOO short!

I just have to tell you...I discovered this weekend that my Sister-in-law is actually as much of a designer paper addict as I am! I really didn't think anyone could be as bad as I am, lol.

Anyhoo...I made a Thank You card using this sketch from Truly Scrumptious:

Here is my card:

I really need to figure out the lighting when I am taking pics! My cards look so much better IRL, but I don't know how to get that across in a picture. UGH!

Here's a closeup of the image. I think she is so cute, don't you? WOJ has such pretty stamps.

I love the flowers that I just got in the mail! (Thanks, Kimm!)  I also added some pearl sticklers to the right of the sentiment and along the scallop border here:

Image: Whiff of Joy: Paper: BasicGrey Wisteria; Ink: SU! Pastels with Blender Pen; Embellishments:
Flowers fromMulberry Paper, Ribbon from stash, Pearl Stickles; Punch: SU! Scallop Oval

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:

*Truly Scrumptious Challenge #45 -- Sketch
*7 Kids College Fund Challenge #8 -- Give Thanks!
*Cute Card Thursday Challenge #138 -- Anything Goes
*Top Tip Tuesday #9 -- Use An Image/Sentiment
*Paper Sundaes Challenge #44 -- Ribbons, Punches, & Blue

I hope you are enjoying your day! We are having several students over tonight to watch a football game, so hopefully I will have time to stamp tomorrow.

WOJ Willow Card for Mom's Birthday

Morning! I finished up my Mom's birthday card this morning. Her birthday is the 17th, so I need to get this in the mail today.  We also have family coming in tonight (can't wait!), and I need to finish getting the house ready, but I wanted to post this first.

I tried something a little different (for me), and followed this sketch from Cupcake Craft Challenges Blog:

Here is what I came up with:

Here's a pic to show (hopefully!) the Shimmer Mist. The card is so sparkly IRL, but I had a hard time capturing that with my camera. :(

Image: WOJ Willow with a Basket
Paper: BasicGrey Eskimo Kisses, SU! RidingHood Red
Ink: SU! RidingHood Red (sentiment and image), SU! Pastels (colored with Blending Pen)
Pink pearls, ribbon, and flowers from my stash
Lace border: Cut from Martha Stewart "Thank You" note
SU! Champagne Shimmer  Paint (mixed with alcohol and sprayed on)

I am entering this in the following:

*Cupcake Craft Challenge #116 -- Sketch
*Fresh Brewed Challenge #22 -- Two or More Patterned DP
*Inktegrity Design #22 -- Ribbons and Flowers
*The Sisterhood of Crafters -- Birthday
*A Crafty Little Place Challenge #64 -- Red, White and Green
*Flourishes Challenge #FTTC92 -- Glitter (I used Shimmer Mist all over my finished card--love that!)
*Lexi's Creations Challenge #26 -- Anything Goes
Let's Ink It Up Challenge #6 -- No Digies and Recycle (I cut the lace border from the bottom of a MS Thank You card)
*2 Sisters Challenge -- Birthday
*Top Tip Tuesday #9 -- Use an Image
*Cute Card Thursday Challenge -- Anything goes
*Paper Play Challenge #45 -- Ribbon, Lace & Flowers

Well, that is probably enough challenges, 'ya think?! :-)

I'm off to mail Mom her card and to finish getting ready for our company!!

Hope you have a craft-making day!

Card for Challenges

Well, I had an extra-long "therapy" (card-making, that is!) session this afternoon, lol. It sure felt good to put some time into a card, rather than just throwing together a few cards to get them finished!

I came across this Sketch Challenge at BasicGrey Challenge Blog:

I decided to give it a try, and here is what I came up with:

Here is a closeup of the image:
